Jon Hobbs is based in our Asian branch in Nagoya Japan, minutes from Toyota headquarters. He specializes in engineering and neurophysics. He conducted his graduate research on the physics of epilepsy at Indiana University. Jon’s research area included applying models from statistical mechanics and nuclear physics to biological systems where the macroscopic state depends on the interactions of many elements at the microscopic state. His technical expertise includes prototyping new algorithms (in C++ and Matlab) for applications in drug research, implementing physical modeling and decomposition/signal processing methods of high dimensional data. His laboratory experience includes interfacing biological tissue (explants, and whole-tissue) with various substrate materials including, silicon, titanium nitride, and indium tin oxide for electrophysiological characterization of specific protein receptor subtypes including tyrosine kinase, α-amino-3-hydroxyl-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-propionate (AMPA), and N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA). He has also co-authored seven peer-reviewed journal articles, and lectured at Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory, (“Temporally extending the Ising model”) and the annual Computational Neuroscience Meeting (“Optimizing information transmission in local cortical networks.”) |
