David Novak eceived a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1994. After graduation, he went to work in the environmental field at Pure Air’s Advanced Flue Gas Desulfurization (AFGD) Clean Coal Project at Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s (NIPSCO) Bailly Generating Station located in Chesterton, Indiana. While at Pure Air, David worked in the areas of quality control and testing to help the facility average over 95% removal of SO2 from stack emissions as well as conversion of the removed sulfur compounds into commercial-grade gypsum for use in the wallboard industry. He also authored the maintenance and reliability portion of a report to the Department of Energy on the feasibility and operations of the facility. After returning to school to study law, David graduated cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law—Bloomington in 2000. He began his legal career at the Indianapolis firm of Woodard, Emhardt, Naughton, Moriarty, and McNett where he participated in patent and trademark litigation as well as patent prosecution. David has prosecuted patents in diverse fields such as medical devices, diesel engine technology, biological waste treatment and processing, safety equipment, and construction equipment. He also regularly lectures on copyright and trademark law to students and educators. |
